The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) began a national strike on Friday, November 15th, which shut down Canada Post’s operations, affecting millions of Canadians and businesses across the country.
As Borderview primarily uses Canada Post for inbound and outbound domestic shipments of firearms within Canada, this directly impacts our customers. Here’s our plan as of the first week of this strike:
Inbound Shipments (to Borderview’s Canada Office)
- Those within driving distance of our Abbotsford, BC area location can contact us to schedule an in-person drop off of your items.
- Those beyond driving distance or otherwise unable to do an in-person drop off to our Abbotsford BC location:
- Most inbound shipments are on hold until the end of this month, pending possible Canada Post service restoration.
- During the first week of December, we will re-evaluate options and if possible, provide a compliant alternative shipping method for priority shipments.
- It is our suggestion that those who can wait until after Christmas to send their shipment in to our Canadian office to begin processing will be well served by doing so. This will avoid shipments being in transit during the high-volume post-strike and holiday rush, and allow Borderview to clear a backlog of other shipments in the meantime.
Outbound Shipments (to customers, from our Canada Office)
- Firearms requiring shipment within Canada will be held until Canada Post resumes operations. If this resumption of service is later than hoped and near the Christmas holiday, customers may request their shipment to be held until after the holiday rush.
- Non-firearms (eg. parts, ammunition, etc.) can typically be shipped to our customers by Purolator.
- Those within driving distance of our Abbotsford BC facility may request a free in-person pickup appointment.
Borderview will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as they are available.
