SHIPPING/DELIVERY

In-Person Customs Clearance

Our signature In-Person Customs Clearance is already included in the per-item prices above, often saving you hundreds of dollars compared to other cross-border shipping options. You just pay the domestic shipping cost once across the border.

Domestic Shipping Costs

Customer is responsible for all shipping costs within the country, billed at actual rates, which are typically around $30 to $50 per gun depending on size/weight/destination.

Within the United States, we ship primarily by UPS. Modern firearms must ship to a Federal Firearms Licensee (“FFL”) dealer for local transfer. The customer is responsible to designate an FFL dealer, pay any local charges, and to ensure that they can receive legal transfer of the firearm(s) in their state and local jurisdiction.

Within Canada, firearms and accessories are shipped via Canada Post Expedited Parcel, while ammunition is shipped by Purolator Ground (both with Adult Signature Requirement). Modern firearms must ship directly to a Licensed individual or business, after Borderview has verified their License and received Transfer approval.

Local Pick Up & Drop Off

Customers within driving distance of our U.S. or Canadian facilities (Lynden, Washington and Abbotsford, BC) may wish to arrange for local pick up or drop off at our facility. We are happy to accommodate such requests on a By Appointment Only basis – contact us for details.

Insurance

While inbound to our facility any coverage is the responsibility of the sender and/or the customer. In the rare case of receiving a damaged shipment, we will notify the customer and provide photos/etc. to assist with any shipper claim.

While in our care, custody and control (including while at our facility and while in-transit in our vehicle for In-Person Customs Clearance), items are insured at no extra cost.

Once shipped out from our facility using a third party carrier (eg. UPS, Canada Post), insurance is an additional 1% of value and will automatically be added unless declined in writing.

TAXES/DUTIES

Customer is responsible for all applicable tax.

For imports to Canada, this includes GST/PST/HST, and Duty on modern items made outside of North America (most often at 3.5% of value). Borderview invoices for GST and Duty as paid upon import clearance; customers are responsible to self-assess for PST/HST as applicable.

For imports to the USA, U.S. Customs Duty applies on modern items made outside of North America (most often between 2.6% – 3.2% of the value of the item). Items made in the United States or Canada are generally duty-free. Some states may charge sales tax upon local transfer of firearms; contact your local FFL dealer for details.

For shipments that arrive on or after Feb. 1st, 2024.

[1] For exports from the USA to Canada, “same shipment” pricing applies to items that arrive to our U.S. facility in the same calendar month, and thus are exported by Borderview and shipped to the customer at the same time. In order to keep multiple items on the same shipment – and thus qualify for ‘additional’ gun pricing – customers may request a “holdover” by giving notice no later than the 1st day of the following month. Storage fees per above apply for holdovers greater than 30 days.

For imports to the USA from Canada, “same shipment” pricing applies to items that arrive to our Canadian facility together, from the same seller and/or shipper. They do not need to be packed in a single box, but must be sent and received at the same time.

[2] A “line item” is a reasonable consumer quantity (at Borderview’s discretion) of a single model/type of item. For example, 2 barrels of the same make, length and caliber is one line item, whereas 1 each of two calibers would be two line items.

[3] For exports from the USA to Canada, “Total Value” is defined as follows:

[A] in the case of a true “Non-Sale” transaction, the sum total of the estimated Fair Market Value of all items on the same shipment, in U.S. dollars.

[B] in the case of a purchase and sale transaction, the sum total of the actual Transaction Value of all items per Buy-on-Your-Behalf order.

For imports from Canada to the USA, “Total Value” is defined as follows:

[A] in the case of a true “Non-Sale” transaction, the sum total of the estimated Fair Market Value of all items on the same shipment, in U.S. dollars.

[B] in the case of a purchase and sale transaction, the sum total of the actual Transaction Value of all items (excluding shipping costs) on the same shipment, converted to U.S. dollars when applicable.

[4] For items being sold/purchased for export from the United States, U.S. law requires that the Exporter be the Seller of the item(s). Please visit our ‘Buy On Your Behalf Service’ page for details and pricing. Do not proceed to make a purchase or send payment directly to a U.S. vendor without first making suitable arrangements with Borderview.

Note: Genuine ‘Non-Sale’ transactions (where no value is exchanged – i.e. an inheritance, moving with your own guns, etc.) are permissible on a case-by-case basis and require our prior written approval. Such transactions will require a signed Compliance Certification.

[5] Effective August 19, 2022, Canada no longer allows the import of handguns except in extremely limited cases which Borderview does not handle. However, Restricted-class long guns can still be imported provided that the recipient is properly licensed and complies with applicable requirements.

[6] “Surplus Military Curio & Relic” (“SMCR”) firearms are any firearm that at any time belonged to a regular or irregular military, and one that also meets the ATF’s legal definition of a curio or relic firearm (generally manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date). In order to qualify for import to the United States, such firearms must: [A] be in complete ‘original military configuration’ (eg. not “sporterized” or otherwise modified), and [B] have been in Canada for at least the last 5 years, with someone who can sign and attest to this fact, providing storage address(es) as requested.

Note: SMCR firearms of United States origin (aka “U.S.-Origin SMCR”, i.e. M1 Garand) must also receive prior approval from the U.S. Department of State, in the form of a written “retransfer authorization” or “letter of no objection”. As of early 2024, Borderview is unable to obtain this additional authorization, and thus is not accepting U.S.-Origin SMCR firearms for import to the United States.

Borderview reserves the right to charge additional reasonable fees in the case of missing/unavailable paperwork, and repacks into a hard case for items received in very poor packaging. Both of these are very rare and avoidable with proper diligence.
